Two icons were lost this week to suicide, but their contributions to the world will never be forgotten. Kate Spade made the fashionably unattainable attainable and @anthonybourdain’s exploration of culture through food opened our eyes to the world. Both will be sorely missed.

Starting today, June 11, U.S. internet providers will be legally allowed to censor and block websites and apps, and force you to pay extra fees to to access your favorite places online. Your internet sanctuaries, the communities you are part of, the ones you have help build up, could be decimated.

Will it happen today? No. Next week? Probably not. The changes will not be swift. They will come piece by piece. A slow, tempered death to the free and open internet we love.

It doesn’t have to be this way. You can still make a difference, Tumblr. We need the House of Representatives to sign a discharge petition in support of the Congressional Review Act that would force a vote on the floor.
Contact your reps—let them know you support net neutrality.

In honor of Pride month, we’ve connected with some incredibly talented artists and celebrities on Tumblr to discuss what their identity means to them. First up is Nicole Ruggiero (@nnnicoleruggiero), a 3D artist who uses art to express—among other things—her attraction to femininity.
How do you express yourself on a day-to-day basis?

I would say that I usually present myself as either feminine or androgynous. It really depends on how I’m feeling that day.

What is the relationship between your art and your identity?

So I’ve always been out, ever since I was in middle school. I never really struggled with that. I’ve never really been the person who’s really into Pride-oriented communities, but I’ve also never been afraid to express who I am. I’ve dated a lot of women and some men, but I would say more than anything I’m really attracted to femininity. And I really like to express that in my art. I think that is definitely a big theme that I focus on.
What advice would you give your younger self about exploring your identity?

I don’t know if I’d give my younger self that much advice about exploring my identity. I think it was fairly easy for me. I kinda knew from a young age. The internet really helped me a lot. I was just really open about it and I think I helped other people by doing that, as well.

In honor of Pride Month, we’ve interviewed a solid set of celebrities and artists on Tumblr to discuss the importance of expressing your identity. Here’s a friend to all, author and illustrator Adam J. Kurtz (@adamjk).

How do you express yourself on a day-to-day basis?

Really because of the internet and the space I’ve created and participated in, I’m able to be myself and communicate on a day-to-day basis. I get to be myself and that’s allowed! People are here for it.

What is the relationship between your art and your identity?

My art is extremely personal and often really literal. So, you know, as a queer person everything I make is gay. It’s gay as hell! Because that’s actually who I am.
What advice would you give your younger self about exploring your identity?

I wish I could tell my younger self to not worry so much. You know, I started my Tumblr when I was 17, just like, sharing my art and now I do that full time. And through Tumblr I met the man of my dreams, we’re married. Life is great!
