Grant Jean, 15, and his mother Allison Jean, who are the brother and mother of Botham Jean, mourn during a prayer service for Botham at the Dallas West Church of Christ on Sunday. The shooting death of Botham, 26, has become a rallying cry for advocates against police brutality — though much is still unknown about what happened in the Dallas apartment last week. Jean was shot Thursday night in his apartment building near downtown Dallas. A police officer, still in uniform after working a shift, went inside Botham's apartment, thinking that it was hers, police said. Officials have said little else about what happened, other than that the officer fired her weapon. She called 911, and Botham died at a hospital. The officer was taken into custody Sunday evening amid intensifying calls for her arrest and accusations that police were showing deferential treatment to one of their own. Novak Djokovic authored a reminder Sunday at the U.S. Open: When it comes to Grand Slam tennis, he is not going anywhere. Djokovic closed the 2018 Grand Slam season with a win over Juan Martin del Potro to claim his third U.S. Open title on the heels of his recent triumph at Wimbledon. He sealed the 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 victory with a forehand winner before he crumpled to the court at Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. It was his 14th Grand Slam title, which ties him with his childhood hero Pete Sampras for third on the all-time major singles titles list behind Roger Federer’s 20 and Rafael Nadal’s 17. Dr. Pamela Grayson raises her fist as Solomon Grayson, 6, peeks behind her sign during a Mothers Against Police Brutality candlelight vigil for Botham Jean at the Jack Evans Police Headquarters in Dallas. Jean was shot Thursday night in his apartment building near downtown Dallas. Officer Amber Guyger, 30, was taken into custody Sunday evening amid intensifying calls for her arrest and accusations that police are showing deferential treatment to one of their own. Guyger, still in uniform after working a shift, went inside Jean's apartment, thinking it was hers, police said. Guyger fired her service weapon and struck Jean, her neighbor. She called 911, and Jean died at a hospital. Despite the arrest, Jean's mother, Allison Jean, said several questions about her son's death remain unanswered. “The number one answer that I want is, ‘What happened?’” Allison Jean told reporters Monday. “I have asked too many questions, and I've been told that there are no answers yet. I'm looking forward to the powers that be to come up with the answers to make me more satisfied that they are doing what is in the best interest of getting justice for Botham.” (Photo by Shaban Athuman/The Dallas Morning News via AP)

Tuesday marks the 17th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon that left nearly 3,000 people dead. The attacks, which included a series of airline hijackings are known as the deadliest attacks on American soil in history. Sept. 11 still shapes American policy, politics and everyday experiences in places from airports to office buildings. As President George W. Bush said in his November 2001 address to the United Nations: “Time is passing. Yet, for the United States of America, there will be no forgetting September the 11th.” Do you remember where you were that day? Or where you were when you first heard the news of the attacks? Share your story in the comments of this post. #neverforget

Shortly after three firefighters raised an American flag above the ruins left by the Sept. 11 attacks — a moment captured in this iconic photo seen around the world — the flag disappeared. But in 2016, 15 years later, the treasured artifact was recovered — nearly 3,000 miles away in Everett, Wash. Where it ended up remained a mystery until a man who introduced himself as Brian went to a fire station in Everett carrying a flag in a plastic bag. The man said he had seen a documentary about the flag’s disappearance and believed he had the missing flag. It is believed that the flag was hanging on the pole of a yacht moored at a small marina just west of Lower Manhattan on the morning of the World Trade Center attacks. Hours later, firefighters George Johnson, Billy Eisengrein and Dan McWilliams removed it, then raised it above the rubble. Eventually, a flag believed to be the Ground Zero artifact toured the world, showing up at benefit concerts and aboard military ships en route to war. But it turned out it wasn’t the right one; the touring flag was larger than the Ground Zero flag, which apparently vanished just hours after Franklin photographed it. How it disappeared remains a mystery. Now recovered, the original flag is on display at the National September 11 Memorial Museum, where it will remain. (Photo by Thomas E.
