Congratulations! You’re a Webby nominee.

Tumblr is in the running to win a Webby (@webbys) for best community on the internet—and it’s all thanks to you. This is our eighth Community nomination. With your help, it can be our sixth win.

You’ve created some beautiful little communities here on Tumblr. You’re welcoming, you’re passionate, and if we must be honest, just the right amount of weird.

Where else on the internet are you going to find SKAM fans who translated each and every episode into English for those who don’t snakker norsk? What other platform is home to witchblr—the people who see the magic in everything, from emoji spells to crystal instructional guides. You are the community who got together for the first-ever virtual march—an online march for each and every person who was not able to physically attend a March For Our Lives rally. You are the people that host your own Tumblr prom every single year so no one feels left out. That’s because no one is left out here on Tumblr. Everyone is welcome.

You’re what makes Tumblr feel like home.

So go on and vote before the polls close this Thursday, April 19. We’re rooting for you.

Oh, have we got something in store for the beautiful, data-loving nerds of Tumblr.

In collaboration with the Society for News Design and the U.S. Congressman Mark Takano (@repmarktakano) of California’s 41st District, we are proud to announce the existence of the first annual International Chart Day.

On Thursday, April 26, we’re asking you to celebrate the power of facts—the truth behind numbers. This isn’t just a holiday to celebrate D&D-inspired alignment charts (though they should be celebrated) and Math Lady (you knew what it is before you clicked, didn’t you?). This is about combating untrue stories. This is about celebrating the ability to extract and use pure information instead of relying on questionable secondary sources. This is about the unfortunate and grating fight against “fake news.”
Here’s how you can celebrate

We’ve dropped a limited-edition sticker pack so you can make your own charts without ever leaving the Tumblr app. You can make make whatever chart your brain or heart desires. Post ‘em, tag ‘em #ChartDay, and we’ll throw the best ones up on a brand new curated Explore page starting April 26.

Get weird. Or get serious. Or do something silly. There are no rules here. You shouldn’t feel limited to a complex graphs representing a complicated issue. Try quantifying the emotional, like @coolnessgraphed, who lives up to their name by graphing the coolness of hundreds of different things. Nice.

Need some more #ChartDay-inspo?

Floor Charts (@floorcharts) curates some of the most visually-appealing government charts that have ever crossed the U.S. House and Senate floors.

Chart-like Charts (@chartlikecharts) really needs no explanation outside of their username. That’s good branding, @chartlikecharts.

I Got Charts (@igotcharts) gets a little more serious than the others on the list. The babies are comprehensive

Okay, that’s it. See you on April 26. No need to RSVP. Dress code: your finest charts.

Sometimes you gotta celebrate the small things, like the one year anniversary of a sandwich wallet.

Let’s make some charts

#ChartDay is here, Tumblr! While U.S. Representative Mark Takano (@repmarktakano) is hosting a day-long conference with panels on the history and future of charts, and how infographics can help combat fake news, we’re celebrating by showing off the best of your homegrown charts on this beautiful Explore page.

Didn’t make a chart? Feeling left out? Wondering if it’s too late for you? Nah, buddies. It’s not at all too late for you. Here’s how you can make some big, beautiful charts of your own.
image
Tap that photo post

You’ll recognize it by it’s heavily-coded label: “Photo.”
image
Choose the photo of your liking

A hot tip for a successful chart: do not choose a photo you hate.
image
Gently—lovingly—tap that sticker face

Look at that face. Just happy to be here, waiting to be lovingly tapped.
image
Place your charts

They’re in the app right now, and we put them there just for you (and everyone else on Tumblr).
image
Grow strong with chart-induced power

Throw some more stickers on there, or don’t. Slap some text on there, or not. We’re not here to tell you what your chart should be, we’re just here to provide a little guidance.

Now go on, pals. Show us what you’re made of. Tag ‘em #ChartDay so we know where to find them.
